REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Government asks state oil and gas company PT Pertamina to speed up drafting proposal to operate Mahakam Block. Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources considers Pertamina as the best operator for Mahakam Block rather than foreign company like Total.

"Government has handed Mahakam Block to Pertamina and now the company is studying and analyzing the data before drafting a proposal," the Head of Performance Supervision Unit at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Widhyawan Prawiraatmadja on Tuesday, December 9.

Pertamina needs three months to study the block. However, government asked Pertamina to speed up the process.

"If Total does not give interesting offer, it is the best for Pertamina to operate Mahakam Block," he said.

Total has been operated in Indonesia since 1968. Its main project is Mahakam Block in East Kalimantan. It is also operator of gas field Sisi-Nubi. In 2012, Total produced 132,000 barrel per day.
