REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GORONTALO -- President Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, during a visit to an outer ring road project in Gorontalo province here on Saturday, said construction of new infrastructure projects in Indonesia will start soon.
"We want the projects to start soon. On Sumatra Island, for example, the construction of the trans-Sumatra railway and trans-Sumatra toll road can begin early next year," said Jokowi.
According to the president, the government has set aside money to start construction of various infrastructure projects in Indonesia. Among the sources of the government's funds were from budget savings and money from the diversion of fuel subsidies.
Jokowi explained that construction of 45,316 kilometers of the outer ring road in Gorontalo could cost Rp500 billion, which could be raised from the government's recent policy of diverting fuel subsidies into more productive sectors, such as construction of infrastructure projects.
Jokowi also said that in the next five years there should be an effort to add 35,000 megawatts of electricity in Indonesia to overcome power crises.
