Hundred Indonesian movies to be screened at national festival

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- About hundred Indonesian movies will be screened at the Indonesian Movie Festival (FFI) to be held in Palembang, South Sumatera, on Dec 4-6.

"About hundred Indonesian movies and TV series will be screened and the best ones will be nominated for awards," assistant at the People's Welfare for South Sumatera's Provincial Government Ahmad Najib said here on Monday.

He noted that artists as well as audience are highly interested in festival competitions. "That is encouraging," he added.

Movies will compete in categories such as short film, animation, television serial, and documentary, Najib stated.

Hundred well-experienced members on the jury will vote to select the best movie in each category. Moreover, the festival will also be attended by film critics who will help choose the best-quality movies.

In connection with FFI that will be held in Palembang, South Sumatera's Governor H Alex Noerdin recently remarked that the local communities should feel proud of the event because the presentation of two prestigious movie awards, Citra Cup and Vidya Cup, will be held in Palembang.

So, everyone should come together to make the event a success, Noerdin stated, while observing that Palembang has become a popular venue for many events.
