REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian chamber of commerce and industry (Kadin) expressed optimism with the government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) after his bold decision to raise the prices of subsidized oil fuel (BBM).

"Kadin optimism is surging for the Jokowi administration after raising yesterday the BBM prices by 2,000 IDR per liter," Kadin general chairman Suryo Bambang Sulisto said on Wednesday.

Sulisto said Kadin had long called for and waiting for the BBM price hike. He also said the cabinet ministers were very proactive in seeking inputs from the private sector, adding a number of ministers had visited Kadin a few days after they were installed.

"We hope factors hampering investment in the country like poor condition and inadequate infrastructure, red tape and discrepancy in regulations at national and regional levels could be reduced and sorted out by the new government," he said.

Earlier Kadin urged the government to revamp oil and gas export-import data center to cope with oil fuel smuggling which is still rampant in the regions.

"There are still oil smuggling undetected in the regions and oil import tax frauds as the oil and gas export-import data center is not effective," deputy general chairman of Kadin Natsir Mansyur said in a written statement on Tuesday.
