REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Maritime and Fishery Affairs Susi Pudjiastuti apologizes because she took a "shortcut" on imposing the new policy. Recently, Pudjiastuti puts moratorium on fishery vessels.

"I apologize that I didn't talk with stakeholders before imposing the policy," Pudjiastuti said on Tuesday, November 11.

She explained that a talk with stakeholders could take months. Some would persuade government to loosen the policy. "It takes a long time," she said.

The moratorium is following the shocking report that state only obtained 8,000 IDR per gross ton of fish per year in non-tax revenue. Meanwhile, the vessel repeatedly sends a thousand tons of fish to Europe and US. She was upset that state only received 300 billion IDR per year in non-tax income from 5,329 large ships.

"It is very low, compared to government's subsidy allocation of up to 1.2 trillion IDR for diesel fuel provided to the fisheries industry. It cannot happen again," she said.

Pudjiastuti has a way to boost the PNBP. She will increase levies charged to large vessels at least 200,000 IDR per gross per year. New regulations will be put in place after the moratorium.
