REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Australia is offering the Elizabeth O'Neill Journalism Award 2015 to Indonesian and Australian journalists, according to the Australian Embassy here on its official website on Tuesday (11/11).

"I am pleased to announce applications for the Elizabeth O'Neill Journalism Award are now open. The Award provides an Australian and an Indonesian journalist the opportunity to work in each other's country to gain a deeper understanding of the other's culture and foster links between nations," Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop was quoted by the Embassy as saying.

The Award commemorates the distinguished career of Elizabeth O'Neill OAM, who died in service of Australia in Indonesia on 7 March 2007. It builds on her tireless work to foster mutual understanding between Australia and Indonesia by encouraging accurate and informed media coverage.

The Elizabeth O'Neill Journalism Award is open to high achieving journalists from print, radio, television and online media organisations.

Award recipients will spend up to two weeks abroad on a fully-funded program tailored to the journalist's area of expertise and reporting responsibilities, which could include foreign and trade policy, development assistance, people-to-people links or education.

The successful applicants must be available to travel in the first half of 2015. Applicants must be Australian citizens resident in Australia or Indonesian citizens resident in Indonesia.

Full application details can be accessed atwww.dfat.gov.au/media/elizabeth-oneill/. Applications close on 16 November 2014.
