REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The government will pay more attention to modernizing Indonesia's naval weaponry equipment, Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said.

"For the time being, we will focus more on modernizing our naval weaponry system, in line with President Joko Widodo's pro-maritime plans," the minister stated while accompanying the president, popularly known as Jokowi, at the Indo Defense Expo 2014 in Jakarta on Friday (7/11).

Moreover, President Jokowi earlier noted that Indonesia needed to develop its own weaponry system instead of merely purchasing arms from foreign manufacturers. Jokowi recommended related parties in Indonesia to cooperate with foreign investors to develop its armory.

Currently, Indonesia is cooperating with South Korea to construct three KFX/IFX fighter jets and three units of submarines.
