REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Marine and Fisheries, Susi Pudjiastuti would impose a moratorium on large ships' operating permits by the end of the year.  She believes that this policy is important despite a hamper for business activity in short time.

According to her, foreign large vessels kept stealing Indonesia's fish resources in a number of waters, such as Maluku, Sumatra and the Indian Ocean. This fact makes her sad. She also invites all Indonesian businessmen to be more independent.

"I want to impose a moratorium on larger fishing vessels until the end of the year," Pudjiastuti said in a press conference recently.

Pudjiastuti explained that Indonesia should stand on its own sea, not other parties who stole the country's fishery resources. She pledged to 'root out' the smugglers who stole Indonesian fishery resources in the waters of Indonesia.

"I will remove all companies, which are often smuggling Indonesian fishes," she added.

Illegal fishing continues to reduce state revenues.
