REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TIMIKA -- A local leader in the regency of Mimika, Papua, said the Indonesian people are awaiting the realization of mental revolution pledged by the government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK).
Jokowi spoke much mental revolution in his political campaigns before the presidential election.
"Jokowi and Jusuf Kalla (JK) have pledged to launch mental revolution in all sectors," Yosep Yopi Kilangin, former district legislator, said here on Wednesday .
Speaking to the Antara news agency, Yosep said the Jokowi cabinet is made up of professional people that could be relied on to bring about improvement in the mental attitude of the Indonesian people.
Indonesia has been ranked among the most corrupt countries in the world and mental revolution is expected to bring about change in the mentality of the people especially the country's leaders.
"The people believe that the Jokowi-JK government could lead the country to a better condition in the future. We also believe that Jokowi has picked the right persons to help him bring to reality his vision about mental revolution," Yosep said.
He said the ministry of human and cultural development, religious affairs ministry, the elementary and secondary school ministry, research and high educational institute ministry, health ministry and the ministry for the empowerment of women and protection of children, are the agencies that should be more concerned with the implementation of mental revolution.
"The ministers under the coordination of the coordinating minister for human and cultural development Puan Maharani have to work hard as they are the driving motors for the mental revolution.
"They are expected to come up with a big through, not just appearing in ceremonial activities, he said.
He also wanted to draw the attention of President Jokowi to problems in Papua saying he hopes that the people of Papua could enjoy a netter life under the new government.
"I am optimistic that Papua would advance faster under Jokowi as he has proved that he like to hear the people's aspirations," he said.
He said he believed that Jokowi is well aware of the problems besetting Papua.
"There are a host of problems that need serious and immediate addressing in Papua," he added.
Security with separatist rebels in the mountain jungles and poverty as well as illiteracy are still besetting the country's easternmost region.
