REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GORONTALO -- The people of Gorontalo called on the government to immediately implement plan to build trans Sulawesi railway extending from the northern and southern ends of the island.
The new transport minister, Ignasius Jonan, should implement the project as it would greatly boost economic development in the whole island , Adrian, Gorontalo citizen said here on Wednesday (29/10).
The new transport minister should know the benefits of building the railway transport facility in Sulawesi, Adrian said.
"Ignasius was former president of the state railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and had succeeded in modernizing the company," he said.
Meanwhile, political communications observer from the Gorontalo University (UNG) Citra Dano Putri said the plan to build the railway project should not be left too long in the pipeline.
The project would contribute greatly to President Joko Widodo's program of maritime development.
"Maritime development program would not be carried out with the support of adequate land transport including railway transport," Citra said.
Implementation of the plan could be made by phases if the budget is not immediately available, she suggested.
