Jokowi-Xi Jinping discusses APEC Summit in a phone conversation

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ministry of Foreign Affairs arranged a phone conversation for President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday to discuss Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit. Jokowi talked from his office at State Palace, Central Jakarta.

"Hello, good morning," Jokowi said.

However, the journalists who cover presidential activities are not allowed to watch the moment when former Jakarta governor greets Xi. Director General for Asia Pacific and African Affairs in Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yuri Octavian Thamrin said that APEC Summit would take place in Beijing on Nov 12, 2014. Jokowi plans to attend the first international event.

"Inshallah (If God will), Mr. Jokowi will come," Thamrin said.

President Xi also expressed congratulations for Jokowi as the new Indonesian President. On Nov 5-11, China will host in Beijing the 2014 APEC Economic Leaders' Week, including the Concluding Senior Officials' Meeting (CSOM) on Nov 5-6, the 26th APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM) on Nov 7-8, and the 22nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) on Nov 10-11.

During the Leaders' Week, China will also host the APEC CEO Summit, APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Dialogue with Leaders, and Leaders' spouse programs.
