Yudhoyono: President Joko Widodo will do much better for Indonesia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono hoped his successor, President Joko Widodo, will do much better work for Indonesia during his leadership term.

"May Mr. President (Joko Widodo) find success and do much better for the nation and state," he said while leaving the parliament building where President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla took oaths on Monday.

Asked what will he do after stepping down from power, Yudhoyono noted he will get some rest after leading the country for ten years.

Besides Yudhoyono and former Vice-President Boediono, the inauguration was also attended by Joko Widodo's political rivals, Prabowo Subianto and Aburizal Bakrie.

Prabowo, the chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement Party and Joko Widodo's rival in the presidential election and Aburizal, the chairman of Golkar Party, arrived separately at the parliament building.

Many former presidents and vice-presidents also attended the inauguration that was organized by the People's Consultative Assembly.

Among them were Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is also the chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, BJ Habibie, Tri Sutrisno, and Hamzah Haz.

Among the outgoing cabinet members present were Coordinating Minister for the Economy Chairul Tanjung, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu, Minister of Public Work Djoko Kirmanto, Minister of Education and Culture Mohammad Nuh, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sharif Cicip Sutardjo, and Minister of Social Services Salim Jufrie Assegaf.
