Malaysia wishes to strengthen cooperation with Indonesia under President Jokowi

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Dato Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim expressed hope to strengthen bilateral relations with Indonesia under the administration of new President Joko Widodo or popularly known as Jokowi.

"I see President Jokowi as someone who prioritizes dialogue. The relation between Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak and Jokwi's Vice President Jusuf Kalla is also close. we expect to strengthen bilateral relations with Indonesia in the future," said Dato Seri Zahrain on Monday.

According to the ambassador bilateral cooperation in business and people to people contact must be intensified. In trade sector Malaysia and Indonesia target to have US$22 billion in trade value this year.

"If all stakeholders are serious in achieving this target and we can solve all trade barriers, I believe we will be able to achieve the target for trade value," said Dato Seri Zahrain.

Jokowi and his running mate Jusuf Kalla were sworn in as President and Vice President here on Monday during plenary session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR).
