REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Jakarta provincial government through Jakarta Culture and Tourism Office will hold a cosplay parade 'Rising of Indonesian Legend' on Nov 2, 2014 in Silang Monas, Jakarta. Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said that this event was held for young generation to develop popular culture attraction in Jakarta.
"This is a moment to show that Indonesia has characters like manga, anime, movies, comics or video games abroad," Purnama said on Sunday.
Head of Department of Tourism and Culture, Arie Budiman said that this activity aimed to appreciate and motivate the pop art actors, especially cosplayers to develop creativity and innovation in their works. This event also promotes Jakarta as tourism destination, especially arts and popular culture to the world.
"Let's make a success of this event as celebration and creative storefront in the development of creative economy and creative industries to face ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015," Budiman said.
Indonesian cosplay parade will feature a number of characters in the country, including Carok, Gatot Kaca, Gundala Son of Lightning, Five Pandavas and others. The annual event will be also attended by foreign cosplayers from Netherland, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea.
