REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fumio Kishida announced visa free for Indonesian passport per 1 December 2014. In a press release written by Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, free visit visa is valid for 15 days, but not for traveler who comes for working intention.

Japanese government also imposed a multiple entry visa to Japan for a period of five years. This is an extension of multiple entry policy, which previously only valid for three years, including for a business visit. Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Yusron Ihza Mahendra expressed his gratitude for Japanese government.

"Indonesian people have waited it for a long time. It is now becoming clear with the announcement," Mahendra said on Thursday.

The new policy will open opportunities for Indonesian citizens to get to know Japan more closely and expand their horizons. To ease the immigration system at Japanese international airports, Japan plans to obtain a free visa passport, especially for Indonesian IC passport holders.

The passport is readable by the immigration computers at Japanese airports. For the first visit to Japan, a passport must be registered at Japanese Embassy in Jakarta or the Consulate General of Japan in Indonesia.
