REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) agreed on plan of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who would issue a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perpu) to cancel the Election Law. This Perpu will be valid for three months until the Parliament approval.
If the coalition map in the House of Representatives is still same as it is now, the Perpu will be rejected by Parliament and the Election Law is still running. However, PDIP spokesman, Eva Kusuma Sundari said that the three months could change everything. The party will use the time span to invite other parties to join the government coalition.
"At least the Perpu must exist, while we communicate with other parties to invite them to join coalition," Sundari said recently.
Sundari was reluctant to explain the next coalition parties. She said that PDIP fully supported president's plan to cancel the Election Law through a Perpu. The regulation has considered to be a solution to threat to democracy, which cut people's rights to vote directly. According to her, the situation is now critical, so that the Perpu issuance is needed.
