REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Friday questioned the former CEO of PT Freeport Indonesia, Armando Mahler, as witness in a corruption case involving former Governor of Papua province Barnabas Suebu.

Armando was the CEO of PT Freeport Indonesia from 2007-2011.

"Armando was questioned as a witness in connection with the involvement of another suspect, former Chief of Mining and Energy Office in Papua province Jannes Johan Karubaba," said KPK's Chief of Information Division Priharsa Nugraha.

The KPK had named Barnabas Suebu, Jannes Johan Karubaba and the CEO of PT Konsultasi Pembangunan Irian Jaya (KPIJ), Lamusi Didi, as suspects in a corruption case in which they allegedly procured the detailed engineering design of the hydro power plant project on the Mamberamo river in Papua province in 2009.

The power plant project was worth Rp56 billion. However, according to KPK, the three suspects conspired to project an inflated expenditure of the project.

Barnabas Suebu was the Governor of Papua province from 2006 to 2011. He is currently an elected lawmaker from the National Democrat party.

Jannes Johan Karubaba was the Chief of Mining and Energy Office in Papua province from 2008-2011.
