REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - A member of parliament from the Golkar Party Tantowi Yahya denied offering money to the Golkar and Democrat factions to secure the draft bill on local elections on Thursday.
"Actually, the chairman gave letters to all the members of Golkar, either who are elected or not to attend the meeting," he stated in the Indonesian House of Representatives office on Thursday.
According to Yahya, about 78 out of the 104 visiting members had attended the coordination meeting held this morning. In the internal coordination meeting, the faction members of Golkar agreed to follow the party's decision with regard to the draft bill on local elections.
"We are still waiting for the answers from the rest of the members who did not join the meeting, and we are certain that they will come for today's meeting," he remarked.
However, he still harbors optimism regarding the party's strength, especially the faction members of Golkar, who are expected to remain solid until the end of their tenure next October 2014.
"I will see whether they come or not. Here, we will see their loyalty, integrity, and solidity," Tantowi added.
