REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta provincial government plans to develop the community health center (Puskesmas) into hospital type-D. This plan will be carried out in 18 districts in capital city.

"If we build more hospitals, people will be safe and they do not have to go far away to the hospital. The transport cost will also be cheaper," Head of Jakarta's health department, Dien Emmawati said recently.

Puskesmas development will reduce the number of patients who queued up at hospitals. The 18 districts are located at Menteng, Kemayoran, Sawah Besar, Kalideres, Kembangan, Mampang, Tebet, Pasar Rebo, Ciracas, Kramat Jati, Cempaka Putih, Johar Baru, Koja, Pademangan, Cilincing, Jagakarsa, Kebayoran Lama and Pesanggrahan.

Local government conducted a feasibility study considering the population of each district, including the unhealthy environment and health facilities. The hospital type-D should meet several requirements, namely two specialists from internal medicine, obstetrics, surgery and children health.

The hospital must also accommodate 30-50 people per day. Emmawati said that the preparation had reached 90 percent.
