REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Government of People's Republic of China organized a photo exhibition at the National Museum, Jakarta, on September 22-25 2014, reflecting the changes in the lives of the Chinese people in the past 35 years.

The photo exhibition, titled "Dream and Memory", was inaugurated on Monday by Ambassador of the PR China to ASEAN Yang Xiuping, Vice President of China Federation of Literary and Arts Circles Li Yi, and ASEAN Foundation's Executive Director, Elaine Tan.

"In the year 1978, China initiated the reform and opening-up policies. This vital decision has set China onto a great path of national renewal and is shaping the future of today's China," Li Yi stated during his opening address on Monday.

Over the past 35 years, the Chinese people have upheld the banner of peace and development, devoting themselves enthusiastically to the development of the nation and having brought spectacular changes in the Chinese society as well as a substantial overhaul in the livelihood of the Chinese people, Li Yi pointed out.

The photo exhibition showcases the basic changes in the daily lives of the people such as clothing, housing, food, transportation, entertainment, and the environment in China.

"The photo exhibition of 'Dream and Memory' held today captures the vivid details in the Chinese social life after the implementation of the reform and opening-up policies. It also demonstrates the Chinese people's endeavoring experiences for their dreams of leading a better life," Li Yi noted.

Moreover, Li Yi emphasized that exchange and cooperation in the area of arts and literature had not only enhanced mutual understanding among China and the ASEAN countries but also facilitated greater communication among the Chinese and ASEAN people.

In the meantime, China's Ambassador to ASEAN Yang Xiuping noted in her opening remark that although China had gained significant achievements in the past 35 years, the country was still facing some major constraints in development.

"I wish the exhibition a great success and the China-ASEAN relations a bright future," Xiuping remarked.
