REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) document will serve as reference for negotiating countries in international forums to continue the development programs after the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) implementation is expected to be achieved by 2015.

"SDGs are not separate from the achievement of MDGs. SDGs are a form of refinement of MDGs," President's Special Envoy Assistant, Diah Saminarsih, stated on Monday.

According to Diah, the refinement is carried out through varied approaches that are necessary by initiating active involvement of the local people in order to achieve global interests. She explained that the SDGs were promulgated to carry forward the main goals of the MDGs that had not yet been achieved, which are maternal and child health, access to clean water and sanitation, gender equality and empowerment of women, as well as nutritional status, among several others.

MDGs were the world's development agenda since their initiation in 2000. The implementation in Indonesia has been supported by the establishment of the Special Presidential Envoy Office for MDGs.
