REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA  - The National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) will continue focusing on improving ports and roads in the country to support national logistics.

"Improving infrastructure is part of the efforts to ensure an effective and efficient national logistics system," Bappenas' director of trade, investment and international economic cooperation, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, said after addressing a national seminar on Wednesday.

Ports and roads in industrial estates needed to be improved to support the logistics sector in the country, she said. Expeditious development of infrastructural assets and other supporting facilities would have a positive impact on the national logistics, she said.

A survey published by the World Bank in 2014 ranked Indonesia 53rd in terms of Logistics Performance Index (LPI), compared to its 59th position in 2012. Indonesia's logistics performance has shown significant improvement in terms of logistical quality and competency, infrastructure and excise duty, she said.

To ensure a competitive logistics sector and improve the living standard of the people, the agency was taking a number of steps, including encouraging main commodities, infrastructure, service providers, improving human resources, technology, information and communication and harmonizing regulations, she said.
