REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Chairul Tanjung stated that the restriction of fuel subsidies should not disturb social and political stability.

"The meeting decided to review the restrictions with some notes that the stability of society and politics should not be disturbed," Chairul Tanjung stated on Monday.

Tanjung remarked that the restrictions had provided benefits even though the results was not very significant. Therefore, Pertamina must regulate the consumption of fuel subsidies in order to be more measurable and controllable.

"Pertamina must set measurable and controllable fuel subsidies; the fuel should not be for the purpose of speculation and a commodity to be traded again," he noted.

Meanwhile, he stated that the government had ensured to provide first priority to fishermen in obtaining subsidized diesel for fishing. The restriction, he said, should not be hamper their daily activities.

"Fishermen have been given priority from Pertamina, because they need care and assistance," he said.
