REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,JAKARTA - The government has agreed to a proposal by the state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina to increase the price of non-subsidized gas in 12 kilogram cylinders, Chief Economic Minister Chairul Tanjung reported.

"We support Pertamina's proposal. We will leave it to Pertamina to decide the rate of increase and the time of price hike," the coordinating minister for economic affairs stated on Monday.

"The economic viability of non-subsidized liquefied natural gas in 12 kilogram cylinders is now far above the sale price. The price of gas in 12 kilogram cylinder is currently 6,100 IDR per kilogram, while its economic viability price is 12,100 IDR per kilogram, so that the difference between the viability price and sale price is 6,000 IDR," Tanjung said.

He pointed out that the large difference between the viability price and sale price has burdened Pertamina. Therefore, the government has allowed Pertamina to raise its sale price.

Pertamina Marketing and Commercial Director Hanung Budya said the rate of increase and the time of the increase will be decided by Pertamina in an internal meeting. He did not comment on whether Pertamina will raise the price at a range of 1,000 IDR to 2,000 IDR per kilogram.
