REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BALIGE - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has launched the great annual event of Lake Toba Festival 2014 (FDT 2014), according to Toba Samosir (Tobasa) District Head Kasmin Simanjuntak.

"We can promote our tourism potential and cultural diversity to the international world through the festival," he said on Saturday.

Simanjuntak stated that Tobasa District had been entrusted to host the FDT, which will last from September 17-21, 2014, in an effort to step up the number of tourist arrivals. He noted that the event was also expected to serve as a real contribution to local people's welfare through the tourism and creative economic sector.

The event will be lively with various art and cultural performances, sports, and other attractions. Simanjuntak noted that although Tobasa District would host the festival, support from various parties and other districts in North Sumatra has also poured in to make the festival a success.

"Supported by various parties and districts in North Sumatra, FDT preparation is now complete," he said, urging the residents of Tobasa District to be a good host.

With over 1,145 square kilometers and a depth of 450 meters, Lake Toba is actually more like an inland ocean and one of the awesome natural wonders of the world. Lake Toba is the largest in Southeast Asia and one of the deepest lakes in the world, and no wonder it has become one of the major tourist attractions for a long time in North Sumatra apart from Bukit Lawang and Nias.
