REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Mikhail Galuzin hoped that there will be an increase in number of Russian students enrolling to study in Indonesia, which can help to strengthen the relations between the two nations.
"Around 30-40 Russian students enroll to study in Indonesia. Most of them study the culture and language of Indonesia. I hope that the interest of Russian students who study in Indonesia can increase every year," Mikhail Galuzin stated here on Tuesday.
Galuzin remarked that the Russian Government has provided an opportunity for Indonesian students to start their education in Russian institutions.
Around 70 state scholarships are available for applicants every year, which include 65 for undergraduate studies and 5 for postgraduate studies. Undergraduate Education Programs such as Bachelor's degree program (4-year term), Certificated specialists program (5-year term), which is similar to Bachelor's degree programs and Master's degree programs taken together.
Postgraduate Education Programs such as Master's degree program (2-year term), Ph.D. (3-year term), Doctoral studies (2-year term), and training courses (6-month courses for foreign students or teachers who are graduating from Russian institutes or universities).
He pointed out that the interest of Indonesian students to study in Russia was quite high as the state scholarships are always availed.
"Around 150 Indonesian students study in Russia in our best universities such as Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, National Research University Higher School of Economics or Petrozavodsk State University. They study science and technology, construction, culture, and so on," he affirmed.
Earlier, three best colleges in the province of Rostov On Don, Russia, have declared their readiness to accept Indonesian students keen on pursuing studies in the city and formed a partnership with a university in Indonesia.
Djauhari Oratmangun, the Indonesian ambassador to Russia stated that cooperation in education was part of an agreement signed by the presidents of Russia and Indonesia in 2003.
The development of economic and trade cooperation in the future will require experts who have mastered the Russian language and culture.
