Quake hits western coast of northern Sumatra

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDAR LAMPUNG -- A 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit the western coast of northern Sumatra island at dawn on Saturday, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

The epicenter of the earthquake which broke out at 04.49 a.m. local time was in the sea about 399 km northwest of Simeulue district in the westernmost Indonesian province of Aceh at a depth of 10 km, head of the Kotabumi geophysics station in Lampung province Yuharman said quoting a BMKG report.

The temblor was not significant enough to cause a tsunami.
