REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MONROVIA -- Liberian President Ellen Johnson- Sirleaf has introduced additional measures to contain and prevent the spread of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) as it persists in the West Africa country.
In a nationwide address to the nation late on Tuesday, the president said with support by citizens group and partners, the nation will continue to work assiduously to combat the Ebola virus.
"There has been some success of the several persons who have been freed from the disease, structure and systems that have been put in place, " the Liberian leader added.
She said despite this reported progress, the nation is still far from reaching its objective to get the disease out of Liberia.
"But we have been unable to control the spread due to continued denials, cultural burying practices, disregard for the advice of health workers and disrespect for the warnings by the government," she noted.
According to her, the disease has spread widely in Monrovia and environs as a result and due to the large population concentration.
"It has thus become necessary to impose additional sanctions to curb the spread overall and particularly in those areas of intensity," she said.
President Sirleaf said measures such as the closure of all entertainment centers, including video centers at 6:00 p.m. local time.
She told the nation that these measures are meant to save lives and make the government's efforts to combat this disease more effective and timely.
"If we can all do our part, we can defeat this disease," she added.
