REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PARIS -- French Minister of Foreign Affairs Laurent Fabius said Wednesday night his country will deliver sophisticated weapons to the Kurdish forces to help them fight the Islamic State in Iraq and the Syria (ISIS).
The military supplies aim to meet the urgent needs of the authorities in Iraq's Kurdistan, north Iraq, he told the private national French TV channel TF1 tonight, without revealing the types of the weapons.
Fabius affirmed the commitment of France to help the Kurdish authorities prevent the extremist ISIS from committing atrocities in Kurdistan or making further advances towards Baghdad.
He added that the EU foreign ministers will held an emergency meeting in Brussels on Friday to coordinate the European response to the crisis in Iraq and discuss the planned humanitarian air corridor to Kurdistan.
Earlier today French President Francois Hollande announced a decision, after agreement with the Iraqi government, to send the military assistance "in the coming few hours" to meet the urgent needs of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
