REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DELFT -- Indonesia Nederland School (SIN) is preparing its high school students to be part of the flag hoisting squad (Paskibra), which will participate in the 69th Indonesian Independence Day commemoration in the Netherlands on August 17.

"This year, twelve students from junior and senior high school are being trained to become Paskibra," Budi Wahyu Rianto, the principal of SIN, stated here on Thursday.

Rianto noted that SIN, which is located in Wassenaar about 54 kilometers southwest of Amsterdam, is a school for Indonesians living abroad and its flag hoisting squad participates in the Independence Day commemoration.

"Paskibra has become an Indonesian tradition in the Netherlands. The students are trained by the military attach? of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the Netherlands," Budi remarked.

He stated that 17 students were part of the squad in 2013. The number of students in the squad depends on the number of the secondary students enrolled in SIN.

The students and teachers of SIN will also present national songs in the flag hoisting ceremony that will be held at Wisma Duta of the Indonesian Embassy on August 17.

In addition to participating in the anniversary commemoration of the Republic of Indonesia, the SIN students will also perform an art show at the Pesta Rakyat (People's Fiesta) event as part of the 17th August celebration.

"The Angklung music play is an art performance that will be presented by a group of students," Budi noted, adding that one of the songs that will be played is a traditional song from Betawi (Jakarta) named Kroncong Kemayoran Betawi.

Angklung is a traditional musical instrument from West Java that is made of bamboo.

The Indonesian Independence Day, which is organized by the Indonesia Embassy in The Hague, Netherlands, features sports activities such as golf and bowling competitions and the fun bike event that was organized from June until early August.
