REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- State owned electricity company, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will set the using of fuel oil for power plants at one million kiloliter in 2017. Head of Fuel and Gas Division in PLN, Suryadi Mardjoeki said that the fuel oil would be converted to coal and gas.

Until the first half of 2014, PLN fuel oil consumption has reached 3.7 million KL out of 6.4 million KL of target this year.

"We are optimistic to reach 6.4 million KL," Mardjoeki said on Monday.

Meanwhile, the use of gas in the first six months of 2014 only reached 221 trillion british thermal units (TBTU) out of 450 TBTU in 2014, higher than its initial plan of 431 TBTU. In 2013, the use of fuel oil for power plants was recorded 7.4 million KL and 410 TBTU of gas.

Indonesia's fuel consumption in energy mix of electricity is still 12.5 percent in 2013. PLN targets the composition to decrease to 9.5 percent in 2014 and 2015. Gas supply to PLN will increase to 470 TBTU after the operation of liquefied natural gas  (LNG) terminal facilities in Arun, Aceh.

Meanwhile, fuel consumption in Bali is still about one million KL per year. It will be reduced through small LNG terminal with a capacity of 40 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) in 2015. Nusa Tenggara and other eastern areas of Indonesia will be converted to gas.
