REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GAZA - The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) is considering bringing ships carrying huge electric generators to supply the Gaza Strip with electricity, which was suffering a severe power shortage crisis, Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah said on Monday.

In an emailed press statement, Hamdallah said that he discussed the proposal with several countries in the world, adding "some countries positively responded to the proposal in principle."

Under the proposal, huge ships would be hired in the Gaza Strip's sea to supply the enclave with power, desalinate water and treat sewage. Hamdallah's announcement was made in a meeting with United Nations Relief and Work Agency officials in Ramallah, to urge them for a fast movement to help around two million Palestinians in the strip.

"The PNA and the UNRWA are working together to help resolving the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and help the population to get electricity, water, medicine and shelters," said the statement published by Xinhua and OANA.

During the past four weeks, the Gaza Strip population has suffered from a deteriorating humanitarian crisis with severe shortage of power, water, medicine, housing, communications and food supplies.
