REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA -- The Lanny Jaya district secretary and party were shot at by a gang of armed civilians injuring a security officer in the Ciwil district on Monday morning.

A member of the mobile police was hit by particles of shell of bullet in the incident at 08.30 local time, source told Antara news agency.

Earlier two police officers were killed when they were ambushed by suspected separatist rebels.

Papua has remained a hot spot in the country with separatists still hiding in the mountain jungle near the border area with Papua New Guinea.
