REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Thousands of travelers packed Merak and Bakauheni ports three days ahead Eid al-Fitr. On Friday, the travelers have been at location since 05.00 AM.

Buses cannot accommodate the increase of passengers, so that travelers are forced to wait longer. Travelers who come from Merak are dominated by pedestrians. Number of motorcycles are still normal. Travelers and four wheeled vehicles are queued up at Terminal II and III.

Until 07.00 AM, most of passengers from Merak to Bakauheni increased, consisted of pedestrians, motorcycles and private vehicles. Similar conditions will be seen at Bakaheuni port when backflow.

In order to prevent the buildup of passengers, state owned seaport operator, PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry has organized at least six counters for motorcycles and four counters for private vehicles and buses. Parking area at Merak port can accommodate 6,000 private vehicles.
