REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested five suspects in Karawang including a brother of the district administration chief after being caught red handed.

"The five were arrested in two separate places on Thursday - at the house of District Head Ade Swara and at a shopping center," KPK spokesman Johan Budi said on Friday.

Two were arrested at the house of the district head including a brother of the district head, and the other three at a shopping mall in the city of Karawang, Johan said. The five suspects were charged with corruption committed by district administration officials, he said.

He said he could give more details as "KPK has much more to do in the field. One suspect is still at large."

The district head of Karawang Ade Swara, however, was not included among those arrested, he said. KPK confiscated evidence in the form of cash in US dollar worth billions of rupiah, he said. Johan confirmed the case was not related to the presidential election on July 9 which is suspected of being rampant with money politics. Issues have circulated linking the arrest to money politics as it came after KPK issued a warning against election rigging.

"We need to clarify as I have received many phone calls asking if the arrests were related to presidential election," he said.
