REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Government has to include automotive industry since total of 70 percent of fuel consumption in Indonesia is spent in transportation sector. National Energy Council (DEN) member, Herman Agustiawan said that policies needed at downstream industry to facilitate it.

"We must include automotive industry at downstream side," Agustiawan said recently.

Indonesia could learn from India, which has more than 500 gas stations now. India started to promote gas conversion since 2001, while Indonesia since 1980s. In Indonesia, the policy is still at mandatory level. Chairman of National Oil and Gas Companies Association (Aspermigas), Effendi Siradjuddin said that Indonesia should be careful with the development of automative industry in the country.

"We have to negotiate with car companies, which produce electric cars," Siradjuddin said.
