REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- ITB Rector's Akhmaloka conveys messages to participants of national university entrance examination (SBMPTN) to choose a major based on their interests and abilities.
"For example [if you] are interested in medicine, but [you are] actually less capable [to pursue] it. But, you are still insisted on it and ultimately you do not pass the exam," Akhmaloka said recently.
According to Akhmaloka, it’s better for students to choose their major not only based on interest but also capability. "There must be their interest and ability in order to succeed," he said.
If the student were pushing themselves to a specific major without prior ability, it would end up failing, said Akhmaloka. It would cause a lot of empty seats at the universities.
