Pertamina to take over management rights over Mahakam block

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR - State owned oil and gas company, PT Pertamina (Persero) is ready take over 100 percent of management right over Mahakam block, East Kalimantan. Currently the oil and gas block is still managed by French oil company, Total E&P Indonesie and Inpex Corporation of Japan.

"We are ready to manage the whole Mahakam block," Pertamina's upstream director, Muhammad Husen said recently.

Husen said that Pertamina had sent the third letter to Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. Company asked government to return the management right to the state owned company. 

Husen added that Pertamina had several experiences in managing Offshore North West Java (ONWJ) and West Madura Offshore (WMO). Company managed to increase production in the two blocks, from 10 thousand barrels oil per day (bopd) to 30 thousand bopd. Pertamina has also extended the contract in Mahakam twice within 50 years.

Minister of State Owned Enterprises, Dahlan Iskan previously said that Pertamina had the capability to take over the management, which was scheduled to begin in 2017.
