Govt to speed up child protection law revision

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Government will speed up revision on Law No. 23 on Children Protection to protect children from sexual abuse and molestation. Linda Amalia Sari Gumelar, Minister for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection said during a press conference on Wednesday that the revision would strengthen child rights' protection complying with international convention.  

"I hope current government and House of Representative can revise the law sooner and we are ready to provide scientific study," Gumelar said.

Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Agung Laksono said that the revision was one of 40 national campaign programs by government and communities.

"Seventeen ministries are discussing a Presidential decree (Inpres) to be implemented by central and local government," Laksono said.
