REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Political analyst of Community Synergy for Indonesian Democracy (Sigma), Said Salahuddin advised Prabowo Subianto as Gerindra Party's presidential candidate not to pick Aburizal Bakrie as his vice presidential candidate in 2014 election. He will get small votes and defeated by Joko Widodo (known as Jokowi), presidential candidate of Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP).

"The gap will be higher if Jokowi puts Mahfud MD or Jusuf Kalla, while Prabowo with Bakrie," Salahuddin said on Tuesday.

Both of Mahfud MD and Jusuf Kalla get electability higher than Bakrie. It will get worse if Golkar Party allows the party's cadres to become vice presidential candidate of other parties. Prabowo will also get small votes if he chooses VP candidate of National Awakening Party (PAN) or Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).

Salahuddin proposed Prabowo to pick Abraham Samad, Chairman of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The duet has a chance to win the presidential election. Samad's electability is far beyond other political party leaders, including Bakrie.

"Prabowo needs a super running mate," Salahuddin added.

Prabowo who was former Golkar Party's member held a meeting with Bakrie at his residence in Central Jakarta on Monday to discuss a potential coalition ahead the July 9 presidential election. Gerindra got around 11 percent of votes in legislative election, while Golkar gained 15 percent of votes, meaning that they both need coalition partners to meet the presidential threshold.
