REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia must be able to take advantage of its demographic bonus in 2025-2035 when the number of its people in productive age is bigger than the non-productive ones, a minister said.

"Indonesia will have a demographic bonus with the number of its people in productive age is bigger," Minister for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Linda Amalia Sari Gumelar stated.

Linda explained that to take the advantage of the demographic bonus the quality of children should begin to be improved from now.

"Children now will become adult and in the productive age in 2025," she noted.

For this purpose, from now, the younger people should start preparing themselves so that they would be able to compete in securing jobs with those of other countries, the minister remarked.

"This means that children have to begin improving their intellectuality, emotional as well as spiritual quotient," she affirmed on Friday.

Linda remarked that the formation of a national children forum could collectively help improve children's quality.

The establishment of children's forums continues to develop from time to time.

In 2010, children's forums were only established in 19 provinces, 37 districts, 21 subdistricts and 36 villages. This year, the number has reached 31 provinces, 138 districts, 86 subdistricts and 211 villages.

"In the meantime the number of national children's forum alumnae has reached 1,600. They are scattered across the country. Most of them are youths with good achievements," the minister asserted.
