Yudhoyono says tradition of positive politic needs to be promoted

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called on the nation to promote the tradition of positive politic in the leadership succession process.

"I want to promote a tradition of positive politic that could help leadership succession in Indonesia run peacefully, honorably, and with a dignity," the president said in an interview posted on Youtube on Saturday.

Whoever elected to be next president in the upcoming presidential election must be respected and supported he said.

"Whoever will be elected to the next president, I will respect, I will welcome and treat him kindly," he said.

He said he would also be willing to explain to the next president about the achievements that they had made over the past 10 years, and what targets that had not been achieved yet.

"I want to see him successful in implementing his tasks, and he could make progress for our nation," the president said.

Indonesia will hold presidential election on July 9, 2014. Yudhoyono cannot participate in the presidential race because he has been in the presidential post for two terms.
