Residents Asked to Beware of Heavy Rain at Night

BPBD Lebak prepares emergency equipment to deal with severe weather.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Lebak, Banten, asked residents to be aware of heavy rain and lightning during the night.

“Vigilance warnings are necessary to reduce the risk of disaster so that there are no casualties,” said Head of Emergency and Logistics Section of BPBD Lebak Agust Riza Faisal, in Lebak, Friday (26/4/2024).

According to the report of the Bureau of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG), the Banten region, including Lebak Regency, has the possibility of heavy rains with strong winds and lightning in the afternoon to the evening.

“Such bad weather has the potential to cause natural disasters, such as floods, land movements, landslides, and pickaxe winds,” said Agust Riza.

Therefore, BPBD Lebak calls on residents living in areas prone to natural disasters to increase their vigilance against the high rainfall.

“We ask volunteers as well as the apparatus of districts, villages, and wards to be able to optimize preparedness for the severe weather,” he said.

According to him, BPBD Lebak prepared disaster equipment to deal with the bad weather, including two- and four-wheeled vehicles as well as public kitchen vehicles.

In addition, also mine equipment, chainsaws, buoys, motor boats, water suction pumps, and others.

BPBD Lebak also guarantees the availability of logistics in the form of rice, various foods, ready-made side dishes, instant noodles, bottled drinking water, emergency tents to accommodate refugees and medicines.

“We guarantee sufficient logistical availability for the next few months,” he said.

Meanwhile, a number of residents living in the streams of Cijung, Cisimeut, and Ciberang Rivers, Lebak Regency increased vigilance during high rainfall to prevent flooding and landslides.

“We are with the residents here to be vigilant and in case of persistent rainfall they are forced to evacuate to safer places because of the fear that the river will overflow,” said Edi Junaedi, 45, a Rangkasbitung resident of Lebak district whose residence is a few meters from the Cijung River.
