Governor: WCRC in Manado to Save Coral Reefs

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO -- The upcoming international World Coral Reef Conference (WCRC) in Mando, North Sulawesi, from May 14 to 17, 2014, was aimed to save the coral reef ecosystem, according to Governor Sinyo Harry Sarundajang.

"The North Sulawesi provincial administration and the people are ready to host this prestigious international event in a bid to save the coral reef ecosystem," the governor said here on Wednesday.

Governor Sarudajang made the statement after attending a coordination meeting for the event, chaired by Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Agung Laksono in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Cicip Sutarjo, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu and Director General of Marine, Coast and Small Islands Sudirman Saad.

In the meeting, Governor Sarundajang said his government and the people of North Sulawesi were ready for the WCRC.

He noted that some preparations had been made since last year to make the event a success.

"The venues where the event will take place, accommodation for the guests and participants of the conference, transportation facility and other supporting infrastructure were already ready," the governor added.

Sarudajang noted that the WCRC will be held in Manado to discuss and suggest ways to save and preserve the use of marine resources.
