REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Golkar Party will not evaluate party chief Aburizal Bakrie's bid for presidency at its national leadership meeting scheduled for the fourth week of this month, chief of the party's advisory council Akbar Tanjung said.

The meeting will evaluate the party's vote tally which fell short of its target of 30 percent in the April 9 legislative election, he said here on Sunday.

"The Golkar Party had set itself the target of gaining 30 percent of votes in the 2014 legislative election but it only received 14.5 percent," he said.

He said the meeting would question why the party's vote tally fell short of the target.

But the meeting would not evaluate party chief Aburizal Bakrie's presidential candidacy announced in 2012, he said.

If the Golkar Party gained more than 20 percent of votes although the votes fell short of its target it could nominate its presidential and vice presidential candidates, he said.

"The causes of the Golkar Party's declining vote tally will be discussed at the upcoming national leadership meeting," he said.

Akbar who is also former Golkar Party chief said the declining vote tally might be the result of the party's failure to carry out its socio-political functions optimally.

As a political party, the Golkar Party must carry out its functions in recruiting and grooming cadres and organizing political education, among others, he said.

"As the Golkar Party has nominated its presidential candidate since 2012, it no longer focuses on carrying out its functions as a political party," he noted.
