PTBA invests power plant in Myanmar and Vietnam

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Publicly listed coal miner PT Bukit Asam (PTBA) plans to build a steam power plant in two ASEAN countries, namely Myanmar and Vietnam. President Director of PTBA, Milawarma is optimistic  that the plan will boost the company's reputation as a world class energy company.

"We will build two power plants in Myanmar and Vietnam and expanding our energy business," Milawarma said recently.

PTBA will sign a memorandum of understanding with Myanmar Minister of energy over construction of a power plant with capacity of 2x100 mega watt. The investment value reaches 250-300 million USD. In Vietnam, PTBA will also build a power plant as part of market development that has been started last year. 

The company has supplied 600 thousand tonnes of coal to Vietnam. PTBA will send a team to the country to conduct an assessment as form of joint business development in coal mining sector. 

In Indonesia, PTBA will transform into an energy company as it expand its business to produce electricity besides coal selling.

PTBA plans to sell 250 MW of electricity to state owned electricity company or PLN's network system in third quarter this year. The sales value reach two trillion IDR per year.

Last week, company decided to distribute dividends to shareholders worth one trillion IDR of total net profit 2013. It equals with 461.79 per share. In 2013, company booked net profit of 1.83 trillion IDR.
