REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's Defence Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro is scheduled to meet with his counterpart from Australia, David Johnston, on the sidelines of the Jakarta International Defense Dialogue (JIDD) held here on Wednesday.

The meeting is to be conducted despite Indonesia's decision to freeze three sectors of cooperation with Australia, namely exchange of intelligence information, joint patrol in border areas and joint training of military personnel. The decision was made in the wake of Australia's phone-tapping activities on Indonesian officials.

However, Purnomo did not specify the agenda for the upcoming meeting with Johnston. Indonesia might have issues with Australia, but that did not mean the two countries had closed all bilateral cooperation, Purnomo said.

"Indonesia recently proposed an Indo-Pacific-wide treaty of friendship and cooperation. Australia supported the idea," he added.
