REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- Rhoma Irama, an Indonesian self-styled king of dangdut (musician) and a politician, kicked off the campaign of the Nation's Awakening Party (PKB) in Aceh provincial district of Aceh Besar.
Rhoma started the party's inaugural campaign by singing some of his well-known songs such as "Adu Domba" and "Ayo Bersatu"
in effort to amuse the Aceh people.
Hundreds of people gathered in the Lampeuneurut's Islamic Center in the Aceh Besar District to listen to the campaign messages delivered by Rhoma Irama along with PKB Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar.
Rhoma said after arriving at the Sultan Iskandar Muda airport in Aceh Besar district on Saturday afternoon (March 15) said that he has a proximity with Aceh.
"I have a proximity with Aceh, so I started the first campaign in this province," he stated.
In addition to winning the PKB in Aceh, Rhoma said he also wants to be reunited with communities in the Indonesia`s westernmost province of Aceh.
Rhoma said he believed that his inaugural campaign can win for PKB in the legislative elections.
Meanwhile, H Rusli Muhammad, another PKB's campaigner on the occasion among other things said that if PKB wins the legislative elections in Aceh, the party will help the poor people in all districts/cities in Aceh province to reach welfare.
Twelve political parties begin the campaigns on Sunday in the upcoming legislative elections on April 9, 2014.
Indonesia will hold legislative elections on April 9 and presidential elections on July 9, 2014. The campaign period for legislative elections is from March 16 to April 5, 2014.
This year, the General Elections Commission (KPU) has decided that 15 political parties in Indonesia are eligible to participate in the elections.
Three of them are local parties for the Aceh electorate, including the Aceh Party (Partai Aceh-PA), the Aceh People`s Party (Partai Rakyat Aceh-PRA), and the Aceh Sovereignty Party (Partai Daulat Aceh-PDA).
The other 12 parties are the National Democratic Party (Nasdem), the Nation's Awakening Party (PKB), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the Indonesian Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP), the Golkar Party (Golkar), and the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra).
Also included in the line-up are the Democratic Party (Demokrat), the National Mandate Party (PAN), the United Development Party (PPP), the People`s Conscience Party (Hanura), the Crescent and Star Party (PBB), and the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI).
