REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), through its Earth Hour campaigns, encourages Indonesians to be wise in using paper as part of their contribution to fight climate change, according to WWF Indonesia spokesman Nyoman Iswarayoga.
"Our campaigns across Indonesia aim to encourage people to make a change at the local level because every individual really has the power to help preserve the environment," Nyoman stated in a release made available to Antara here on Tuesday.
He noted that the WWF campaigns were intended to raise people's awareness on the importance of reducing the use of paper as well as the importance of recycling waste papers.
Nyoman explained that the use of paper is part of modern life in the field of work and education; however in reality, paper is made from forest trees.
"Therefore, excessive use of paper must be reduced in order to save the trees in the forests as part of our efforts to preserve the environment," he noted.
According to him, the campaigns for Earth Hour, to be observed on March 29, have been conducted in various cities including.
Banda Aceh, Padang, Palembang, Pekanbaru, Tangerang, Jakarta, Bandung, Cimahi, Bogor, Semarang, Solo, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Kediri, Malang, Kota Batu, Mataram, Samarinda, Balikpapan, Banjarmasin, Palangkaraya, Pontianak, Makassar, Sorowako, and Palu.
He stated that WWF has also encouraged consumers in Indonesia to be more concerned about the impact of various tree-related products they use, such as paper, tissues, and plastics.
