US, Britain, and China offer partnership to Surabaya zoo

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA - United States, Britain, and China offer managerial partnership to Surabaya Zoo, a'controversial zoo' in East Java.

The US will help looking for some partners from zoos in Washington, New York, dan San Diego, according to US Ambassador to Indonesia, Robert Blake Jr, during his visit to Surabaya on Monday. He met Surabaya Mayor, Tri Rismaharini at Surabaya City Hall.

Earlier on Feb 6, British Ambassador, Mark Canning discussed about mass rapid transport investment in Surabaya. He also expressed his intention to manage the zoo. Similar offer also comes from the government of Xiamen in China. The city is the sister city of Surabaya. 

"Xiamen city government has sent a letter and stated our intention to build partnership with Surabaya Zoo," Cooperation Head of Surabaya City Government, Ifron Hady Susanto said on Tuesday.

Xiamen through Xiamen Haicang Safari Park as the most popular zoo in the city, will provide its managerial assistance. Surabaya Mayor said that local government tried to provide better management of Surabaya zoo after the death of several collections of animals there.
